Derek is in charge of the data logging of all the Team's racing machines to gather the salient information in order to ensure that the bikes are set up better than the rest of the field. His experience is derived from his early education in engineering and computers combined with his passion for racing.

Derek is a former motorcycle racer himself, racing at most permanent and road circuits around the world and riding in many different classes. The highlight of his career was winning the 250 British Championship title in 1979 on a Yamaha. During his career he also worked as a development rider for Cotton Motorcycles who were responsible for bringing the Rotax engine marque into the road racing world. Rotax engines were later used by Armstrong Motorcycles and currently by Aprilia in the 250 class..

Since retiring from racing Derek runs a racing business looking after rider's racing engines and manufacturing special components to support them.
